A beautiful overlay mosaic crochet pattern featuring four dolphins, each one slightly different from the other, playfully leap across one side of this blanket, perfect for dolphin lovers! The optional Leaping Dolphins border adds a lovely feature to finish your blanket.
Two versions of the pattern are included in this PDF file – one version has a striped background; the other a more solid background, with lines to represent the movement of water.
On purchasing this pattern, you will be able to download the PDF files - the pattern in written format, containing both versions, (please note the pattern is written in English only) is available using US or UK Terminology. There are also separate PDFs that includes the charts for both versions of the pattern in 1-, and 9-page formats, which include the Leaping Dolphins border charts in 1-, or 2-page format.
This pattern is suitable for intermediate level crocheters, who already have experience in the overlay mosaic crochet technique.
The finished blanket (without the optional border) is 204 stitches wide and has 307 rows (306 rows for the Mosaic Dolphins, the version with the more solid background). The optional border has 32 rows.
When crocheted with a worsted weight yarn and a 4.50mm (size G; No. 7) (tested using Red Heart yarn), the blanket measures approximately 232cm x 148cm (91 x 58 inches), without the optional border.
Any yarn weight can be used to make Mosaic Dolphins, the patterns have been tested using fingering, DK and worsted weight yarns. If using worsted weight yarn (tested using Hobbii Amigo XL; yarn required will differ depending on which yarn brand you choose) – you will need a total of approximately 1668 grams (60 ounces) or 3336 metres (3637 yards): 804 grams (29 ounces) or 1608 metres (1753 yards) for the main colour; and 864 grams (31 ounces) or 1728 metres (1884 yards) for the contrast colour.
